Mission Statement

The mission of the Carolina Clinical Education Consortium (CCEC) is to promote quality clinical education for PT and PTA students in North and South Carolina. The consortium supports the professional development of the community of clinicians, faculty and students based on a partnership between the academic programs and clinical sites with mutually agreed upon standards and outcomes that support autonomous and contemporary practice.

Who is the CCEC?

The Carolina Clinical Education Consortium (CCEC) includes representatives from physical therapy education programs and clinical facilities that provide clinical education experiences. North and South Carolina colleges/universities, which provide physical therapist/physical therapist assistant education in programs accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education are represented by the Academic Coordinators of Clinical Education/Directors of Clinical Education (ACCE/DCE). The Clinical members, five (5) from NC and five (5) from SC, are selected by the CCEC Board to serve a three year term on the Board.

What do we do?

The CCEC’s primary purpose is to support physical therapy clinical education through education and communication.

Support for academic programs includes access to a group communication site, where individual members can obtain information and exchange ideas as well as regular meetings to discuss clinical education. Clinical members of the Board provide guidance and suggestions. Board members collaborate on current clinical education topics, research, and clinical faculty professional development.

For our clinical facilities:

  • The annual conference purpose is to provide quality clinical education professional development programming based on assessment of regional needs.
  • Each program identifies a Clinical Instructor of the Year. These individuals are recognized at a luncheon during the annual conference in March.
  • At least four Basic Clinical Instructor Credentialing courses and one Advanced Clinical Instructor Credentialing course are offered at a nominal fee each year. Courses are determined at the Fall Board meeting and are scheduled across geographic areas of the Carolinas. Course listings are available. Visit the APTA website for more information.
